Artist’s Statement
My paintings obtain a vastness. I am contemplating the fullness of the unseen. My vision is honed perspective of a face or figure, however I am equally fascinated with vacant seemingly empty space. Scientific theories catch my imagination. Lightning and Stars could cause natural radio waves, along with artificial sources such as cell phones computers, radar. What is present in the emptiness of the air; bacterias, vitamins, particles, radio waves, microwaves, effusions from volcanoes, chemicals? We equally occupy space and are largely unaware of space/air. In my view the seen and unseen have equal weight. Many of my paintings remove much of “material possessions” environment to better enable focus of the weight and substances of the atmosphere. As a sculptor, anatomy in motion is well understood, however I have always been interested as to how the angle of the body “punctures the space around it”. this disruption of space contributes to an impression of fluidity and movement. Within my paintings the opposite occurs, I am isolating the human or animal figure, while increasing the appearance of weightiness in their surroundings, as if the air may be pushing down upon humanity
